5 Tips for a Better Video Conferencing Experience

Whether you’re at home, at work or in a public space – video conferencing can present a number of challenges. Browse our tips below to see if you can up your VC game!

1. Acoustic treatment

Architects in 2020 love glass and concrete- this is great for aesthetics but terrible for audio quality. Thankfully, treating your room acoustically can be easier and better looking than you might realise.

2. Wait your turn

Video conferencing technology has come a long way in recent years- however it will never truly replicate a face to face conversation. Be aware that you have a better chance of being heard if you don’t try to speak over people, try to get the group’s attention before you dive in and make your point.

3. Use quality equipment

It might seem obvious- but using good quality hardware that’s suitable for your space is typically the biggest variable affecting your video conferencing experience. If you’re experiencing issues with your conferencing system, the equipment you’re using might not be up to the task.

4. Be aware of your environment

If you’re in a space with lots of noise or back lighting, mute your microphone when you aren’t speaking or lower the blinds – the other participants will thank you.

P.S. Remember to unmute your mic when you’re ready to speak!

5. Prepare for screen sharing

Screen sharing is a great way to communicate while video conferencing, sometimes a picture really does say a thousand words. With this said, always make an effort to prepare your computer for screen sharing by closing unnecessary tabs and windows and opening any documents you plan on sharing ahead of time.

And there you have it!

Keep these tips in mind next time you're preparing for a meeting on the go or troubleshooting issues in your workplace, and don't hesitate to contact one of our team members to learn more about improving your conferencing experience.
